This is an interesting article which shows that someones memory of some event may not be the best and how to potentially play tricks with their memory. I remember reading about a magician who was performing sponge routine and the spectator said that the magician did without even touching the balls (what he remembered probably not what actually happened.)

Many tricks rely on the fact that the spectators are supposed to not notice at all some passages, to my knowledge.

I remember a phrase by Dai Vernon reported by Michael Ammar in one of his videos (if memory serves): \"If you want to transform an orange into an apple, be absolutely sure that spectators saw an orange, first of all!\"
...maybe the phrase wasn\'t exactly this, but you got the idea...

Yes, I remember it well, I performed a trick where 4 coins doubled into 8 for elderly gentleman and he didn\'t seem to notice that there were now more coins. It killed the trick because he couldn\'t seem to remember or ever notice how many there were to begin with.
