Does your Ring or Assembly hold stage shows?

While working with some of our young magicians, who have never done any real work on or in a stage environment, I realized there was a NEED to help them to grow in their magical arts knowledge, as well as refresh the knowledge with others.

When told he was to work “In One” at one of our Ring shows, one of our youngsters gave a quizzical look and hadn’t a clue. One of our older magi placed some of his props in odd areas because he “didn’t want to be “Upstaged” when a volunteer walked in front of him.” This lack of knowledge of stagecraft screamed for help.

What started out as a basic workshop has grown and turned into my first booklet “Basic Theater Terms, Showmanship and Routining Your Show. A basic guide for magicians.”  This downloadable booklet is designed as a primer for new magi as well as a refresher for the rest of us. It starts off speaking of stage terms and develops into some ideas on showmanship. I also cover some examples of routining and what many have found to work for them.

The point of this booklet is not only to inform, but to get you thinking about how and WHY you do your magic. Why you say or do certain things, and also hopefully to make the effects you do your very own, and NOT just a copy of what that magician you saw on TV do last night.

I will say now that there are related random thoughts that crop up here or there that may seem out of place, or maybe have their own chapter. Eventually these ideas may be expounded on at a later date.  This 29-page PDF format document covers the following areas:

Theater Terms
Stage Presence and Showmanship
Movement on Stage
Routining Your Show
