FBI Investigates Magician's Crate Stunt
The FBI is investigating a claim by a Syracuse, NY magician, Wade Whitcomb, that he shipped himself via the United Parcel Service (UPS) to Las Vegas. This stunt was to promote a friends new website but UPS doesn't believe their claim saying the odds that is happened are "almost nil."
The specially constructed crate had a wooden bench inside and Whitcomb reportably hung to handrails while the crate was being moved. Four video cameras documented the journey and the resulting videos are posted on ventma.com.
It is apparently illegal to ship yourself as a parcel so Whitcomb is not forthcoming with UPS tracking information to validate his 25 hour journey via UPS overnight service. Whitcomb performs under the name Wade Live and hopes this will also propel him into the spotlight.
March 11, 2009 Update: Wade Whitcomb admitted that this was all an elaborate hoax after being questioned by authorities.
